Celebrating Valentine's Day...Month!

Hello All! Welcome back to our den. Our Pride has been busy creating some wonderful Valentine projects. Are you ready to have some fun again with JAFF Just a Few Friends! What we are gonna do is meet several times this Month...to create projects relating to February, Valentines Day, Love and all that good stuff! I am so excited! We hope to inspire you to create and be as excited about your craft as we are! Hello Ladies! Welcome to my new adventure! I have just become a member of Just a Few Friends (JAFF).

Since most of you know Elsa with Just a Few Designs http://www.justafewdesigns.blogspot.com and KimiBee.I would like to take this time to announce that they along with Elsa's daughter Krystal have created a new design team! Most of their followers, including myself, have been wishing and waiting for this to happen for quite some time! I just never expected to be asked to join so I am overwhelmed and honored! For my first project we were asked to create something relating to teacups, saucers or teapots...Since I collect them I was more than a little excited! For my project I have created this Teddy Bear Tea Party...in a Box! I created the box by recycling a First Aid Bandage box and covering with Butterfly Gardens paper line from Pink Paislee. The miniature tea set was a gift from my daughter when she was about 11 years old...she is now 25! The teddy bears were a set I used for a Christmas scene display every year for Christmas, except for this one!

A WORD OF ADVICE!!!! If you are recycling a box...trust me... it is easier to take the box apart and cover it, then put it back together! MUCH EASIER!

INSTRUCTIONS

Supplies:

4 sheets of 12X12 Cardstock (double-sided)

adhesive

bone folder

paper cutter

Instructions:

First sheet of cardstock is 12x12 (outside layer of box), score cardstock at 4” on all 4 sides. Cut out 4 corners and fold at scoreline.
Second sheet of cardstock, cut to 11x11, score at 3 ¾” on all 4 sides and again cut out 4 corners. You may want to decorate or embellish each section before gluing together. Glue center only to the inside center of first piece.
Third sheet of cardstock, cut to 10x10 score at 3 ½” on all 4 sides and cut out those 4 corners. You may want to decorate or embellish each section before gluing together. Glue center only to the inside top of second piece of cardstock.
Lid – Cut cardstock to 8x8 and score at 1 7/8” on all 4 sides. Cut only one side of each corner square and glue together.

Tips:

Fold all fold/score lines for box and pages back and forth
You can embellish box before assembling (makes it easier to add pockets and other design features)

My 2nd project is something lacy again...I guess I am on a crochet kick! I have been preparing for several craft shows in my area and have tried to come up with some "unusual" projects. I have created a White Christmas Altered lace Hat! The hat itself is a victorian lace pattern that was stiffened using Aileen's fabric stiffener and Draping. I altered it with tulle, pearl strand and hand crocheted flowers in Christmas White and Christmas Burgundy. I finished it off with leaves made with a deep green satin! I hope you enjoy this project as much as I enjoyed making it. I got the idea from my daughter's wedding decorations but instead of making the flowers out of paper I decided to try my crocheted flowers. ENJOY!

I have joined a bunch of talented ladies that I have admired for quite a long time to share with you some awesome Christmas themed projects. I am truly honored to be asked to join their fun! My first project is something I have always admired of other people and have always wanted to do! It is Irish lace! "Irish crochet" is a type of lace that has its origin in the famine years of the 19th century in Ireland. Charity groups sought to revive the economy by teaching crochet lace technique at no charge to anyone willing to learn. This type of lace is characterized by separately crocheted motifs, which were later assembled into a mesh background.

Irish Crochet Lace is made with a very fine steel crochet hook and fine crochet cotton or linen thread. It begins with an outline of the pattern on a piece of cloth. Each motif is then crocheted separately, using cotton cord for volume and shaping. The finished motifs are then basted (sewn with a loose stitch for temporary tacking) onto a cloth in the shape of the pattern. The motifs are then joined using chains and picots. When all the motifs have been joined together forming one piece of lace the basting stitch is removed from the back cloth revealing the completed lace.

Face Painting at the Fall "Round Up" at Church

Hey all! I know I haven't posted in awhile but I am going to try to catch up this week! I have recuperated from my shoulder surgery but the physical therapy process was pretty intense so I didn't get to do a lot of crafting. I have however been working on items for a craft show that I will be participating in...I will post more about that later.

This past weekend I was able to help our church by volunteering to do their face-painting at their Fall Festival function. I did a lot of Spiderman, puppy dogs, kitty cats, princesses and tigers on the little kids but since I didn't get permission I won't be posting them. I did however get permission from the older kids and parents so here they are. These are just a few of what I did!

My DCWV Mariposa "Love Letters" Long Envelope Mini Album

This is the mini! This is one of the projects I created as Guest Designer/Featured Artist for the Glitzyglamourgals Spring 2011 Crop. As part of a "team" thing we all used the DCWV Mariposa Paper Stack to create our projects. This "love letter" mini is what I created to put love letters that I have received from my husband and those he received from me! My husband Mikel has always put little notes and drawings all over the place for me to find at random times...it is always fun and keeps me guessing...lol This is my mini, I hope you enjoy it! I have created a template for the envelope and converted it to a pdf file but am still trying to figure out how to post it to my blog...geek speak...using html and hyperlinks...yea, that's it...lol

Okay, so I have been working on some new flowers and decided to post them! I saw them on a really beautiful layout but I can't remember whose...sorry. It might have been Gabrielle Pollaco (sp) but I can't be sure. It is one that I have wanted to do for quite some time and now I have made several variations. I will be using a burgandy one on a layout of my parents using my Prima Pastiche paper I have been hoarding...I am using it up cause I am tired of it just staying in my paper drawers! Chemo Caps!!!???

I need a little bit of input from you ladies...while sitting in the waiting room with my sister Sandy, I was approached by one of the nurses and intake coordinators to see if I would be interested in making crocheted "chemo" caps for them to put in their new shop attached to the hospital. I told them that I had made caps or hats before but not specifically for chemo patients but that I would definitely be interested in trying. This is what I came up with...and I would like for you all to tell me what you think. I have other colors in mind and am working on getting a very soft lightweight cotton yarn to work with due to the sensitive skin of most chemotherapy patients. SSSSOOOOOO....What do you all think so far?

New Spring Project Just in time for Mother's Day!

For years I have always had an obsession with Teacups and saucers and have collected many sets through those years. This is one that I decided to alter and kinda do a practice run with it. Most of these flowers are from I Am Roses, Wild Orchid Craft and even a couple that I made. I have used several techniques to color them in this arrangement and look forward to experimenting with many more. I have several teacup and saucer sets in mind for my handmade paper flowers as well as my crocheted flowers. It is so easy to do and it is a great gift idea for Mother's Day! or for a "just because" gift.

This is my absolute favorite one! This is the one my daughters got me for Mother's day when they were little. I love it so much! It will be the one I alter with my handmade flowers! I will post pics when I do this one...I might even do it as a ustream sometime.

I have given away a couple of my collection and have concentrated mostly on miniature sets now as I have no more room for them...as you can see.

I know it is springtime ladies but I am really far behind in my albums. I also mention this in my youtube video showing this mini...but I feel I need to state it again. I think that saving money is very important in todays economy but to be honest with you I waited too long to buy this Tim Coffey Fall Collection Paper Pack http://www.timcoffeyart.com/ and almost missed getting it altogether. It took me forever to find it! I know that may not have been the end of the world but I would not have been so pleased with this mini album had I used another paper and I think that is important...to really love what we do and what we create. So from now on I will be more careful in my spending choices! Anna makes the most beautiful flowers and has shared a lot of her "secrets" tips and techniques with us! This is what I came up with for the altered Hat project! I am really pleased with the way it turned out. Maybe I will create one using my crocheted flowers, leaves, butterflies and lace ribbon!!!!! hhhmmmm?

Just as an update: As some of you know I was injured some time ago in the shoulder and have been trying to get it to heal up with no luck. A torn rotator cuff can and is very difficult to deal with. I have actually been off work now for 6 months and am having some pretty extreme pain. I hate to take pain meds so I have been trying to fight that as well and for the most part crafting and scrapbooking has made it easier to keep my mind off of it. Of course, my sister giving me her personal cricut machine when she got an Expression makes it so much easier than using punches!

I had to have an MRI and some other things lately and will find out next week what my next step is...unfortunately that might include surgery but whatever it takes to fix it so I can get back to my job and my life as I knew it...for now I am kinda in limbo!

My husband and I are still trying to figure out how to set up a way for people to purchase individual or singles of my flowers and butterflies so just hang in there with me and I will get it going sometime soon.

This is not my original pattern as this pattern has been around for generations but the original idea for these flowers came about because my daughters are both engaged and my youngest wanted me to make her bridal bouquet and other flowers. This is the final rendition of my flowers! I will be making sets of 5 in 5 different sizes starting at 1 1/4" to 2 3/4". They will be up on my Etsy shop sometime early next week! I will be making them in different colors. I will also be making different sizes of leaves that can be purchased for them as well as other items! I have been busy, busy, busy!

This is a flower I am currently working on. I have been making flowers, butterflies and other crocheted items for many years now but have explored more uses for them. Someone gave me a suggestion not too long ago on how to make them more dimensional and this is what I came up with. I am playing with more of my old patterns (both purchased and original) and will be posting them to my new etsy store. Thank you all who commented and gave me encouragement and sometimes not so gentle push in this directions. lol! It is really appreciated!

Okay everyone! I just have to tell you how special my day has been! Normally my husband and I don't do a lot for Valentine's day because I feel like it is Valentines day everyday with him! I had actually been dreading it this year because as most of you know my Mother passed away a year ago today so I was just trying to get through the day and get it over with. Well...I awoke this morning got my son ready so my Husband Mikel could take him to school when he got home from working midnights. This is where the sweetness begins! I go on with my normal routine but when I go to get a glass from the cabinet...I find this cute little Disney Princess Valentine leaned up against a glass. For as long as I can remember I have loved the Disney Princesses. I can remember even in my late teens my sister, Sandy, and I would get the coloring books and the big boxes of 64 crayons and lay in the floor watching TV while coloring. My Mother would just giggle and laugh at us and with us! We had so much fun being silly! I guess we had told this story to my husband so much that this is where he got the idea for the Disney Princess Valentines. As I went from room to room doing my everyday thing...I find more of them stashed around the house...to me...from Mikel!!! In the dishwasher, refridgerator (propped up against a cold pepsi), in my scrapbooking chair, several drawers, in my cricut and even in the mailbox! He gave me the empty box and said I would have to find them...all 32 of them! This is kinda like Easter, Goodness knows I will probably still be finding them when Christmas comes!! I have been grinning like a dork and giggling all day! But how in the world can I top this! Anything I think of pales in comparison...although I did buy him a special handgun that he has wanted for years. He said "Nothing says I love you like a Walther P38 9mm) okay...

So his attempt to keep the day light and fun and loving has worked! The only thing sad is that this is something I would immediately call my Mom to tell her about...and she would giggle...but seriously I can hear her giggle anyway

Not Quite Fearless

The idea for this layout Title came from a challenge issued during a crop at The (Scrap) Beach sometime last fall. I thought it was an interesting challenge but didn't get to complete it before the challenge deadline. So it became one of those layouts...you know the ones...that you keep in the back of your head or if you are like me written down in a sketch book. But never done.

I have recently joined the site http://www.scrapbookchallenges.ning.com/ in hopes that they would challenge me to finish more 12 X12 layouts. One of their challenges for February was a sketch design that I found easy to work with and very inspiring so I decided to try this particular page on this particular design and I am happy with how it turned out.

This page is about me...after years of wanting to be a HairStylist...finally going back to school. After all these years of working in offices which I loved, I get to do what I have always wanted to do! I worked hard all these years and now I get to still work hard but show a different creative side! Loving it!

Altered Prima Tin

I have participated in numerous flower swaps on the (scrap) Beach and now I am faced with the dilemma of having several bins of flowers to use. My goal is to start using them on my projects and stop hoarding them for the "perfect" project or layout. Every project and layout is special and I will start using them now! This first project is an altered Prima Tin. I think it had some mini flowers or something like that in it. My sister, Sandy had purchased them and gave me the empty tins. The flowers I am using on it are the ones I created for the February swap. I have always tried to make my flowers so all someone has to do is pull them off and put them on a project!

I filled the tin with my mixture of lip balm...this is the recipe

1/4 cup of cocoa butter

1 tbls vitamin E oil ( I add more in the winter time)

1 tbls glycerin

melt these in a glass measuring cup and pour into containers of your choice.

A Love Story Mini

This is a mini album that I created for my Mother and Father. As most of you know my Mother passed away Valentines Day 2010 so this time of year is more than a little difficult. I was planning on a valentine heart box with a mini for my Mother in celebration of her life but just wasn't able to get into doing it. I had an old family friend send us a pic via Facebook of my parents in 1947 and I knew I needed to do one about BOTH of them first. Once I saw this mini technique from Elsa with http://www.justafewdesigns.blogspot.com/ I knew this was the mini i wanted to do now! I began it one day and finished it the next. Now I say finished...but I have not put the pics and journaling in yet. I will be printing them sometime on Monday or Tuesday or sending them to Walmart through their online site to store ordering. I love it!

I have actually just completed a mini album using her wraparound technique and I am so happy with how it turned out! Now to pay it forward! I am to tell you 8 things about myself and then list 8 talented ladies and fellow bloggers!

1. After 17 years of secretarial/medical I decided to go back to school to become a HairStylist...at the age of 43! And I do not regret it and love it!

2. I am always late! Well except for the times my sister or children have had to have anything medical related. The "joke" in my family is that I will be late for my own funeral! I have made arrangements with my husband to have the last laugh...When I "pass" many many many years from now, he is to wait until everyone is seated for my funeral and then they can wheel me in!

3. I am the Queen of lists! I make lists for everything. Probably comes from my years of being an Executive Assistant to a CEO. Sometimes this is a good thing and other times it just drives my family crazy! As long as there are post its or notebooks I will be a happy camper!

4. I can't draw a straight line but I love to craft! That is why all those wonderful tools are created to do it for me!

5. I love to watch Deadliest Catch, Ice Road Truckers and Whale Wars. I have no political stance on these shows I just like to watch them. Oh, and I can't forget Hoarders! Oh my goodness! I watch that show and immediately go clean out a closet and throw away/giveaway a bag of stuff! Motivates me I guess! lol

6. Both of my daughters Cassandra and Amanda are now engaged! One will be getting married in Vegas by an Alice Cooper Impersonator and the other will do a traditional wedding! I get the best of both worlds! lol

7. I have a fear of death but am facinated by Cemetery's. My Husband's birthday is October 31 and we live across the road from a Cemetery...hhmmm

8. I lost my Mother Valentines Day 2010 but am determined to celebrate Valentines Day. It is what my mother always wanted me to do and would still want me to do. I never celebrated it much before because everyday is Valentines Day with my husband Mikel. I know that sounds corny but it is so true!

She started me scrapbooking and has created a monster! lol She has made shelves full of scrapbooks and has recently been converted to do minis and cards as well! Butterfly Embellishments for January Swap at the (Scrap) Beach!

I created these butterflies for the Butterfly Embellishment swap at the Scrap Beach for the month of January. We were to create three different types of butterflies with a little something extra for each of our groupmates.

The white corner butterfly is cut from a cricut cartridge, the red/silver butterfly is made from a piece of silver Designer Metal sheets. The red is from a piece of red acrylic that I bought from the Dollar tree about 3 years ago. I also used this to create the background by embossing it with a Cuttlebug Heart embossing folder for details. Crochet cotton was used to make the white lace butterfly. A glass butterfly bead was all I needed to create the dangle charm attached to the tag. I have never made a COMPLETED dangle charm like this and I tell you...it is more difficult than I thought!

A new found treasure from an old Family Friend!

This is a picture of my Mother and Father many years ago. I had never seen it until today! An old family friend was going through his mother's pictures and found it. He thought we might like to have it! YA THINK!!!

When they could afford to Mom and Dad always made Valentines Day a big deal through good and bad times. In previous posts I have told you that my Mother passed away on Valentines day last year and with that holiday coming up it has been a real difficult time for us all but this picture brings peace to my heart. Maybe Mom and Dad are trying to tell us ALL something...they are together.

This is what scrapbooking is all about and I cannot wait to scrapbook this picture for Valentines day!!

Christmas Paperbag mini Album!

This is my first Christmas mini album as well as my first paperbag album. Originally I was not going to do a Christmas mini this Christmas but after seeing the one created by Jody at luv2scrap11 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edVv4GpO1BI on youtube...I just got so inspired and had to do this one! With her permission I utilized some of her features because they were just so amazing!

The binding method was an idea I got with a tutorial from Robin Correa at injoystampin.com or on her youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/injoystampin

In regards to my first paperbag mini...wow...it can be addictive! But I really put my heart and soul into this mini album so I am literally drained...pleased but really drained. I am currently going through all of my Christmas pics and I am trying to narrow down the many pics I want to put into it. I am not sure I will do another paperbag mini anytime soon...or maybe I will...hhhmmmm????

Here is the first project I worked on after learning how to crochet over 30 years ago. It is a Queen Anne's Lace Tablecloth...unfortunately my oldest daugher who was 2 at the time spilled a whole cup of chocolate milk on it. I washed it and used it to cover the back of my couch in 1985!

These are the first items that I was commissioned to make in February 1985. A co-worker of my sister, Sandy, asked if I could create this table runner for his wife's buffet as well as the round "Hearts Content" doily for an antique table he had purchased for her. I sold them both for $45. Can we say "Not so Bright"???

Miscellaneous Lace Pieces (former Unfinished Project)

Several of the things shown in this picture were on my list of Unfinished projects...they are now completed. I volunteered to host a crop prize at our monthly crop at the Scrap Beach and this is what I came up with for that prize. The winner was Zeffy! I will be sending these to her as soon as possible. It is so cool that she lives in Athens, Greece...my Mother had dreamed all of her life of going there to see all the places she used to read about. Unfortunately she passed away Valentine's day 2010 and was not able to fulfill that dream so I will be sending a little piece of us for her.

As many of you know I have been trying to get older unfinished projects out of my craft drawers, completed and on my shelf for display or out the door as gifts. I have been doing pretty well so far with six projects completed since January 1st this year. Challenge #6 is called New Beginnings. We are to use our newest items to complete a craft. Since I needed to create a birthday card this week and I used my newest items this will be my challenge entry.

The new items used were my versa mark ink (for embossing), my faded jeans Tim Holtz Distress ink and my cricut. I know the price tags are still them but my daughter swears she used her coupons! It has now become a tradition in our household...she keeps me supplied in my versa mark and Staz on Ink!

Monkey in my Locker! REvised

I posted this sometime before Christmas Break for my son, Alex. While doing an assignment for his Fine Arts class he had to create a product or service to sell or distribute. This is what he originally came up with...the only problem is that his teacher wanted him to "make" all parts of the project. So he has to redo the assignment!

So she is holding his grade until he either recreates the monkey or does a totally new item as well as the report and documentation ...by this Friday! So we made our own monkey. He did most of the sewing himself and really seemed to enjoy it. I was quite surprised! I know it isn't as cute as the "purchased" monkey but this little dude is pretty special for me.

Lace Butterflies!

As most of you know I have joined the "unfinished Projects" Group at http://www.thescrapbeach.ning.com/ hosted by Kathryn. We are compiling a list with photos of our incompleted projects to post and hopefully get us motivated to finally completing them or to get rid of them. I am still working on getting all the pics taken of my "Unfinished items" but have finally came up with a tally and OMG! I can't believe it! I have started so many things and just left them and moved onto other projects! (As far as I can count, so far I have about 34 projects on my list...however, after this weekend I have 31 left! How wrong is that! wow!

Anyway, this is one of the projects on my list of things I was able to complete this weekend. This is a kit from Quick Quotes Scrapbook Company and my sister Donna had given it to me as a gift sometime this summer. It was the shell with some embellishments but I had to put in the pictures, tags, journaling and other embellishments to complete. I have enclosed before and after pics. I have used it to document times in my life and that of my husband, Mikel. I started with our grade school photos and progressed from there.

My Flowers for January Flower Swap at the Beach

Lyla is back hosting her flower swap for January, and since it is my Birthday month I decided I really wanted to participate. The address for the "Beach" is www.thescrapbeach.ning.com . For the swap I created 3 flowers, white (sorta...silver works doesn't it...lol), aqua and purple. We were also asked to create a stick pin to match. I used my die cuts with my Big Kick to make most of the flower shapes as well as some of my regular punches. I did have some problems with the colors after I was finished....the purple actually looks pink in certain lights...not sure why that happened but overall I was satisified with the look. I then applied Glossy Accents and Diamond dust to create the wintry and icy effect that I wanted.

I put the flowers and pin on a double tag. The first tag was made by using some recycled acrylic or plastic sheeting that was on some toys and other items I had purchased. I cut them with my cricut (this worked great!) then embossed them using my cuttlebug snowflake embossing folder. White cardstock tags backed the tags.

I participated in a Tag swap called "Save the Ta Ta's" in October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. While contemplating what to do with all my tags I felt I really wanted to make them into a small tag book of sorts and put them on my shelf for inspiration. This is what i finally did. Another project taken off my "To Do" List.

These pictures are of my mother and my daughter's and step-daughter. My mom told me the story that whenever my dad was alive and I would pull into the driveway with my daughters she or he would say "There's Our Girl's". When I got remarried and Callie came into the picture it was still Our Girls. As the years went by it changed to Mine and Mikel's Girls...including Mom. Therefore the Title "Our Girls" The picture of Cassie, Mandy and Callie was taken in 2005 and the picture of Mom and the girls was 2007. I am so glad I finished this page but I am still not sure it will fit into a page protector of a scrapbook but I am gonna try. lol

I just had to share with you all the project my 11 year old son Alex created for his Fine Arts class. They were instructed to make/create something to sell and this is what he came up with. It was his idea totally! I love it! They wrote up marketing plans and did some research with that.

The monkey is attached/glued to jute rope and at the top it has a Heart magnet that will stick to the locker. He found the heart magnets on the side if my refridgerator and asked if he could have it. I helped him with the hot glue gun and also getting him the items that he needed. I even surrendered my packaging fom my shipping tags so he could use it. He gets his grade tomorrow and I can't wait! He got to use my Big Kick and really loves it and even told his dad that he was about to lose his video player kid because he thinks he might like to hang out with me in my scrapbook room! Pretty cool huh!!??

A New Christmas Card

While watching some ustream classes on glitzyglamourgals channel which is www.ustream.tv/user/glitzyglamourgals

I was inspired to make another type of homemade Christmas Card. The instructor or host of this particular segment was Tammy. Tammy showed us a wonderful little mini book that would be great to give as little gifts for family and friends. I will be trying this technique sometime this week but what I really like was her Christmas skunks card that she colored using watercolors with a blending pen as well as gel pens and glitter pens. So in answer to her challenge to use other means of coloring instead of copic markers this is my twist on it.

I created this card using my printer, metallic gel pens, water colors and some markers. I needed a quick card for an occasion on Tuesday and this is what I came up with. I had done similar cards several years ago using Red and Green and really wanted to try the Blues...Enjoy!

As you will see from the picture...my scrapbook desk is a total mess! It just shows how much fun I had! I will warn you...the inking got a little messy around the edge and the color looks brighter in the picture that it shows in real time but oh well...I still like it!

Embellished Paper Doilies GGG's Challenge!

I participated in their Christmas ustream this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed myself! There were numerous projects done this weekend and I encourage you to check out the recorded shows on ustream...you will not be disappointed I promise you that!

Maria is located in Denmark and hosted the class on Embellished Doilies. I loved it so much I decided to do one for myself. The Challenge is to create a doily using the Christmas theme posting them on the Glitzyglamourgals blog. This is my take on her class. I still need to mount it or frame it in a shadowbox which I intend to do sometime this week. That is why you may see some of my xyron adhesive paper behind some of the tiles...so just ignore that please!

This song was played at the memorial of Josh Micheal Williams. Josh was a day shy of his 29th birthday when he died unexpectedly. Josh is the brother of my future son-in-law Jonathan Patrick William who is engaged to my daughter Cassie. While I had never met him I felt that through his family and friends that I had. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. This song was played at the conclusion of the service...it is heartbreaking but perfect!

This is my mini album I have put together for my husband and myself...this week is our 13th wedding anniversary. He is going to help me select and put in the pics. I am not sure that I like the color combination on the cover but /i love this flower. My sister Sandy made it for the October flower swap on the scrap beach. Bald is truly Beautiful!!! I told her I would shave my head with her but she wouldn't let me! To tell you the truth I was kinda relieved but kinda disappointed...I have always wanted to shave my head just to see what it would be like...but never had the nerve!

Silver Lining, lemonade out of lemons...whatever...she took it as an opportunity to accessorize!! Brunette, Red Head!

But the Blonde has it! Mikel and I searched all over Lexington and then settled on the internet to find her this Rachel Welch wig that was so close to her natural hairstyle...and had it shipped to mom's house so she could get it quicker...she drove over in the snow when the delivery man showed up!

Chemo zapped her heart but she is still smiling...kinda! This was a tough time! We were told she would have to have a heart transplant eventually but Dr Rhodes was optimistic! We learned a new meaning for the word HOPE that day!

My Grandmother

This is a layout I was going to do for a crop challenge on the Scrap Beach but couldn't put it together in time. I tired to do other photos with the chosen papers hoping to postpone this one of my Grandmother because quite frankly she and I just didn't bond. I think I was 7 or 8 when she died so I just didn't know a lot about her so I was dreading this page. Everytime I would search for different photos of other family members this one would fall out or I would find myself drawn back to it. So I decided that once I was out of my scrappers block I would do this page. I haven't completed the journaling yet but will do this sometime this week. I was worried about what to write because she always seemed so upset with me. My oldest sister told me that I should journal as though my dad was still alive and would read it...that was a pretty heavy thought but this was his Mother and he loved her dearly. I loved her as my grandmother but we just didn't get to love each other as we should have. I guess in doing this page I laid to rest the animosity or fear I felt for her and was able to make a page that I would be proud for my Dad to see. I feel this is a heartfelt tribute to this woman who raised 11 sons and had numerous grandchildren.

Mixed Blessing Box ingredients and symbols each stands for.

The Ingredients are Pretzels, Bugles, Peanuts, candy corn and Orange slices.

The Bugles are a symbol of the Cornucopia, a horn of plenty.

The Pretzels represent arms folded in Thanks & Prayer.

The Candy Corn reminds us that during the winter, the Pilgrims were allowed only five kernels of corn per day because the food was scarce.

The fruit is a reminder that Thanksgiving is a celebration of the harvest.

The Peanuts represent seeds, the potential of the bounteous harvest of the next season if they are planted and well tended.

This is a Scrappers Block jar I created to help me through my "funk". When you are in that blocked frame of mind, you go to this jar and pull out however many slips of paper and scrapbook a page, card or project using the suggestions on the papers.

I was playing around with the wire discs that I had laying around for filters in our kitchen sink and was bending and twisting ...reminded me of the bread dough flowers I used to make years ago...then I went and found some of those left over flowers and started making this wire flowers.

I decorated some trinket boxes with these flowers for my daughters as gifts years ago. I think I will try to make them again ...maybe improve on them.

I fell in love with the Vintage Shabby Chic mini album created by Robyn Correa at Injoystampin.com. I immediately purchased the Once Upon a Time paper collection. I used her album to create one for myself and my sister. While I normally do not "scraplift", this is one album that I loved so much I just had to make one for my sister and myself. I am in no way, shape or form as creative or as talented as Robyn and I am totally in awe of her work. Thank You so much Robyn for all your inspiration and for sharing your gifts to us all.

Colors of the Rainbow Challenge required a recipe of items to be used...using all the colors of the rainbow and the following recipe I created this page using the paper pack I just received. The Mira collection from Brenda Walton, K&Company. It reminds me of the colors of summer when I was growing up. From the first time I saw it...it made me smile and remember that time.

This Page also works for Challenge #5 called "Opening Presents" requiring a page using the thre newest things I have purchased but have not used yet. The Paper pack was the 1st thing used. I have looked for it for a long time but since it is not the newest collection from K&Company it was not in my Local Scrap Store so I ordered it from ebay and just got it last week. The second item was the thicker letters...they were white but I inked them with the Tim Holtz Orange Marmalade Distress Ink pad I just got a few weeks ago from LTC.
